Twitter recently announced their new design for user profiles, including a large cover photo.

How big should this image be?

Recommended dimensions for this cover photo:

1500 pixels wide and 500 pixels high

BUT keep in mind that parts of this cover image are going to be covered up or possibly not seen when viewed on a mobile device.

Helpful resources:

For details on how to change or remove your profile or header photo, see Twitter's page about Customizing Your Profile.

What should I put in this header image?

To those posting images: before you post someone else's photos or illustrations, make sure you are not infringing on someone else's copyright. If you're posting your own images, I strongly encourage you to add a small copyright notice somewhere on the image, just in case the image is copies and posted elsewhere. I usually try to include my URL and/or Twitter handle as well as my name.
